Phoenix Settlement Center Program Information

Many of the villagers at the Phoenix Settlement Center have skills such as artistry and crafts . Through the entrepreneurship program villagers will develop valuable entrepreneurial skills and learn the basics of how to run a business of their own. At the end of the program participants will have a completed well thought out and viable business plan.

What is the PSC program all about?

Within each of these sections REACH and facilitators will be conducting workshops to further explore and make the program more hands on and fun. At the end of each curriculum sections is a workbook where participants work on their business plan.

Curriculum Sections

  • Dedicated and serious about the South Africa Initiative. Apply Here!

  • Has had prior experience with teaching a workshop or a course on a specific or variety of topics.

  • Displays cultural sensitivity and understanding/knowledge about other countries and peoples.

  • Is an entrepreneur or has had experience with entrepreneurship

  • Has a skill that they can bring to PSC and can clearly display why this is a useful skill that can be adopted or adapted. Can also be used to lead a workshop.

  • Ambassadors are expected to provide their own funding for travel and lodging through fundraising.

Ambassador Expectations

  • Implementation of Course and Workshops

  • Ambassadors to teach a section of the entrepreneurship curriculum.

  • Hold a workshop to further explore curriculum and gain hands on experience.

  • Aid in the design and implementation of the curriculum and workshops

Program Requirements

  • June 1, 2020-July 12, 2020

  • Must have a passport and visa before April 1st, 2019

  • Not all volunteers will be at PSC for all 6 weeks.

  • Each ambassador is expected to raise up to $5,000

Timeframe & Budget

  • Bring a comprehensive and easy to digest 4-week entrepreneurship course to The Phoenix Settlement Center.

  • Give villagers a starting point to building their own business

  • Have villagers complete the program by creating a business plan.

  • Help start the Phoenix Settlement Center brand and create partnerships with businesses in Durbin, South Africa and the U.S.
